Now, the franchise is sending David Price, the number one overall draft pick in 2007, down to the minors.
The main argument for the move is monitor his workload.
"We have obviously spent a lot of time talking about this,” Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said. “When we came into camp, we came in with an open mind, knowing full well that there were certain developmental issues that we wanted him to focus on and also the workload. And just the increase and how we’re going to monitor that."During the spring, Price has pitched 8 1/3 innings with an ERA of 1.08 and has struck out 10 batters.
