Still unknown if Ethier will land on DL

According to Jim Peltz of the Los Angeles Times, it's not yet known whether outfielder Andre Ethier will land on the 15-day disabled list or not.

During batting practice on Saturday, Ethier broke a bone in his right pinkie.

"My guess is we're going to wait a couple of days," [manager Joe] Torre said. "By that time we should have a clearer idea of where we're going, if he's not going to stay active."

In May, he was hitting nearly .500 (24-for-49) as he had nine multi-hit games in 12 games played. He also has five home runs and 19 runs batted in this month.

Either, who is currently the top-ranked player in Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball, is leading the National League in all three Triple Crown categories: batting average (.392), home runs (11) and runs batted in (38).

13 straight at home for Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers had tied the record set by the 1911 Detroit Tigers with 12 consecutive home victories to start a season.

Now, they are in sole possession of the record for the best start at home in baseball history.

"I'm sure they're aware of it," Manager Joe Torre said. "I'm sure they'd like to be the team to own the streak by themselves, or, like the 1911 Tigers, not be around when it's broken."

The Dodgers beat the Washington Nationals 10-3 last night. Although the Nationals have the worst record in baseball (7-18), a win is a win.

Matt Kemp reminds Torre of A-Rod

Per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp reminds his manager, Joe Torre, of Alex Rodriguez.

For Kemp's sake, hopefully nicknames like K-Fraud won't follow.

"The ball doesn't come down when he hits it," Torre said. "He's one of those guys that doesn't have to hit it on the screws."

Hitting coach Don Mattingly says that Kemp reminds him of Bo Jackson, because of the "stupid stuff they are able to do."

Kemp definitely has the tools that give him "super-superstar potential" as teammate Doug Mientkiewicz says.

When asked about the type of numbers Kemp might someday put up, Torre didn't want to put undue pressure on the kid.

"That's not fair for me to put that on him," Torre says.

Although Torre and the Dodgers don't want to put pressure on him, I have no qualms about doing so as Kemp not only plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers but for "Rays Nation" as well. [Not as funny of a fantasy team name now that the Rays are actually good.]

In any event, as owner of "Rays Nation," take a quick look at the "stupid" pace Kemp is on.

So far this season, Kemp has hit safely in all 13 Dodgers games for an average of .383 and an OPS of 1.157. His 3 HRs, 14 RBIs and 4 SBs puts him on a pace of 37 HRs, 174 RBIs and 50 SBs.

Joe Torre shocked at reaction to his book

Joe Torre is shocked by the reaction to his book, "The Yankee Years."

Torre hopes David Wells, who called Torre a "punk" for the tell-all book, will "get a different perspective" if he reads the whole book.

In his book, Torre says: "The difference between Kevin Brown and David Wells is that both make your life miserable, but David Wells meant to."

Not sure what else he needs to read Joe.

Wells believes that A-Rod (called A-Fraud in Torre's book) will be affected by the comments regardless of what A-Rod says. And I couldn't agree more with Wells.

"A-Rod says that he's not worried about it, but deep down, you can't help but think, 'Why did this guy say something? Why is he making these remarks?'"

"Now you're gonna go on the road during the season, you're gonna get bashed by every fan out there. Especially in New York, if you have a bad game, [then it's] 'Joe was right.'

As talented of a player as A-Rod is, no player is more concerned with his image and how he is perceived.

One of the things I admired about Torre was his ability to keep things in house. While I would have preferred that he didn't write the book and took the high road, my opinion of Torre doesn't change much because he wrote the book.

But to act surprised by the reaction? He's either an idiot for being surprised. Or he thinks everyone else is an idiot that would believe he's surprised.
